Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Distillery Officially Named “SAKURAO DISTILLERY FOREST SITE”

SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery Co., Ltd. (President and CEO Koichiro Shirai) held a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, March 3rd, for the new distillery to be constructed in the Yoshiwa district of Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Approximately 30 attendees prayed for the safety of the construction work.

The new distillery has been officially named “SAKURAO DISTILLERY FOREST SITE.”
The name reflects the desire to create a distillery that captures the beauty of the Yoshiwa region, with its clear streams and lush mountains.
The facility will consist of two buildings: the distillation building and the visitor center, both designed with spacious, open areas to allow visitors to immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.

The distillery will feature cutting-edge manufacturing equipment from Germany, alongside traditional pot stills from a renowned Scottish distillation equipment manufacturer. It will also include a guided tour route where visitors can experience the production process and the allure of whisky.

The distillation building is scheduled for completion in fall 2025, followed by the visitor center in fall 2026. Through the “SAKURAO DISTILLERY FOREST SITE,” the company aims to promote and spread awareness of Japan’s craftsmanship spirit and regional culture.
